Our Gites are in the countryside surrounded by farmland. We are part of the small commune of Montreuil-sur-Maine. This little village itself is nestled on the western bank of the tranquil Mayenne river, Maine being the Anjou name for the Mayenne as it crosses the border and flows down to the mighty Loire. The village has the shrine of the Réplique de la grotte de Lourdes, which has been a place of pilgrimage for decades.
We are a 5 minute drive from the local town of Le Lion D’Angers which is the crossing place over the river Oudon. This town has a large supermarket with petrol station, several restaurants and tabacs (bars), boulangeries (bakers), boucheries (butchers) and coiffers (hairdressers) as well as a range of bespoke shops. Le Lion D’Angers also has English speaking doctors, dentists, opticians and pharmacies.
